The Three Pandas Animated Storybook App Reviews

What We Liked: Goldilocks and the Three Bears is a perennial favorite, and we own several variations on the tale. The Three Pandas is such a cute version of the story; the interactive panda bears are absolutely adorable – the sounds they make and the ways they behave when tapped throughout the book are just so funny and charming. I love the integration of live action figures like the little girl Mei Mei who moves throughout the computer generated graphics – I’m reminded of the early integrations of cartoons in live action films but vice versa. The panning, musical transitions, and interactive elements are all very well done. If your family is studying Chinese this is a great bi-lingual storybook that can be read to your children in both English and simple Chinese. What We Didn’t Like: In an app book of this length it would be nice to have a way to jump to different pages instead of being limited to the side scrolling format. Some of the animated, musical page transitions do make the story move a bit more slowly than our other interactive books. Overall: This is a really charming rendition of a classic fairy-tale, brought to life in a new setting with funny interactive capabilities. The panda bears are terribly sweet, and really hard to resist playing with. Disclosure: I received a promo code so I could write this review.

If you love pandas, you will love this app. They are super soft and the animation is really great. The design is beautiful throughout- I want to live at the house of the three pandas and drink their soup! My boys loved the record your own voice feature- great fun! Thank you for creating another iPad masterwork for kids to explore, engage and learn with all by themselves.

Very nicely done. Please add a volume option for the background music. It overpowers the voice of the reader.

This is an enjoyable storybook. Its basic as a storybook app and that might be part of its appeal; the story is the center of the app. Children will focus more on the story rather than touch every part of the screen looking for surprises. The medium is good too. The images, photos, and artwork set an interesting and different background to the story. Sometimes the photos move, which keeps the attention of young readers. Plus, there are subtitles in two languages and the program reads the story in two languages. Very cool!

I was excited to buy this for the interactivity and the Chinese practice, but the Chinese version and English version are separate, which doesnt allow a student to make connections between the two languages. The interactivity is very basic and lacking in any real fun or inventive use of the technology. Save your money for other stories which do the interaction better, like Alice in Wonderland or the fantastic flying books of mr. Morris.

What a great alternative concept of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Would be interested in seeing twists to other childrens classic stories.

This is our familys new favorite - its absolutely magical and adorable! The recording feature is a nice touch too. Highly recommended!!

This is a beautiful book! Very well done and captivating. As a Speech-language Pathologist, it is definitely an app I will be using with my students. I also tried it out with my 12 year old middle-school daughter and she gave it a 2 thumbs up! Its one of the best Ive seen- and with almost 400 apps on my IPad, thats saying a lot. Thanks for making such a wonderful book!

love this app! The pictures are beautiful. There is some animation, but the focus is still on the story. The story and narration are very good. My one suggestion would be to have hi lighted words and an option to tap a word to hear it within the read to self option. This would help emerging readers independently read while they are building reading skills.

Very interesting book. Since we have 2 Asian girls, we all enjoyed the book. It was wonderful having a choice of English and Chinese,please make more books like this (Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood,etc.).

Love this remake of The Three Bears and Goldilocks. It is my favorite story and will be a great way to introduce the zoo animals to my Kindergarten class before we go to the San Diego Zoo in May. Im sure they will ask their parents to download it at home if they have an IPAD or IPhone. I will be looking for more great books like this soon.
